功夫Kung Fu

Path to cultivation and Health

Kung fu has a history of over 5000 years. Daoist external and internal arts were two-fold used as longevity practiceand as martial skill for war and protection for local villagers.

In modern history, Kungfu people, including the Daoists were often wandering warriors known as part of the Jianghu knights(江湖侠客Xia-ke). Some of them sought refuge in temples including Buddhist temples such as Shaolin. In return, these Xia-ke taught kungfu to the monks

FIVE ANCESTORS FISTS | WUZUQUAN is a unique Martial Art that was created by Bái Yùfeng a practitioner in Song Dynasty (around 920 to 1279). Bái was a top martial artist from North Shaolin temple. At the time, South Shaolin temple was in danger. He was sent down to save and protect the temple. It was in the South where he got five local masters with expert skills and integrated the essences of their arts into one complete art - Wuzuquan. This system consists of techniques from:

• the footwork and agility of the Monkey (猴拳)

• the hand techniques and the complementary softness and hardness of Crane (白鶴拳)

• the posture and dynamic power of Lohan      (羅漢拳)
• the precision and efficient movement of Emporer Taizu (太祖拳)
• the breathing methods and iron Body of Da Mo (達尊拳)

Five Ancestors is known for its large variety of power generational methods. Due to the distinct character of each ancestor, these methods change depending on the power required.

There was a sixth ancestor Xuan Nu (玄女) - the mysterious lady in the green dress, although not on the list, she contributed flowing movements, humility, and softness to the art of Five Ancestors.

After years of training, Shifu Sun Miao Xiao recognizes more and more the profoundness of Xuannu's influence to the arts. The softer the movement, the more expansive the energy flows. Shifu places specific emphasis on the refinement and softness in his teaching. This is the reason we place her name forward to illustrate the importance of her influences.

Today there are at least 5 other different branches of Wuzuquan each having a different emphasis and historical timeline.
